The Congregation Mission Statement

We are a family of Christians, drawn together by a common mission:
"To build and nurture an active Christian community; to support the mission of the Cathedral; to offer opportunities for exploring and expressing spirituality, affirming the diversities that exist among us; above all, through worship, service, and example, to bear witness to Christ's healing and reconciling love to neighbors, pilgrims, and visitors."

THE CHILDRENS ABBEY- THE UNIQUE SUNDAY SCHOOL PROGRAM OF THE CATHEDRAL AND THE CONGREGATION.

Join us on September 9th at either 9:00 or 11:00 for Children's Abbey registration and our first class session in the undercroft of the Cathedral.

Retreat and Discussion

The Green Retreats: A Quest for a Sustainable Spirit, Community, and World

As people of faith, how are we called to respond to care for Creation? This fall we invite you to join us for a day retreat and a series of discussions focusing on this question.

“The Green Retreat” led by our new Canon Pastor, Reverend Victoria Sirota on Saturday, November 3rd, in the Cathedral House. The event, sponsored by the Education and Outreach Committees, along with the 20s/30s Connection, will explore how God calls us, as Christians, to be faithful stewards of the earth.

Representatives from GreenFaith, Sierra Club, Interfaith Power and Light, and Environmental Defense will lead us in discussions that help us integrate a more eco-conscious way of living based on spiritual principles. At the retreat, we will consider tangible ways in which we can make changes in our behaviors and attitudes so that we live more in accord with our mission to protect and care for God’s creation. Also, we will examine how we can advocate for solutions to the issues of global warming and sustainability.

In conjunction with this retreat, we will also hold a Bible Study on four consecutive Sundays after the 11 a.m. service.   In each session, we will explore the Biblical basis for environmental stewardship as well as responses by theologians and faith-based communities to the needs of the natural world.  Each week, individuals who work at the crossroads of faith and environmental concerns will lead the discussion.

The four Sundays are: October 21st, 28th, November 4th, and 11th

A donation for the retreat of $12 is suggested. We invite you all. If you would like to attend the retreat please contact us at
20s30s@saintsaviour.org. Also, we will have flyers on the Congregation Table.

The Visit
Let’s try it like this: I made a visit to England recently. It was January and not yet as cold as it would be. The English cold is a different cold. It comes with dampness and secrecy. It was awhile since I’d been there (2 years) and a lot can happen if you’re not watching.

Christian Education programs

The congregation of St. Saviour at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine sponsors adult and children’s programs, including the fascinating Wednesday Night series, the innovative Children's Abbey, our Sunday school program and the popular Wild Angels - a writers workshop and yearly retreats and the weekend seminar series.

Join us for any of these wonderful programs

The Education Committee

Being reminded by Christ that we are commanded to love the Lord with our whole mind, the mission of the education program is to provide a forum for the dissemination and discernment of God' lessons from history and the world at large in the pursuit of intellectual enlightenment and spiritual nourishment.

Congregation educational programs offer sensitive and creative approaches in addressing issues of the Christian faith. Our concern is to honor and celebrate the wide diversity of the Christian experience.

 All are welcome!
