Steven Y. Lee will lead this year’s retreat at Holy Cross monastery. The retreat sessions will be based on the book Into the Silent Land: A Guide to the Christian Practice of Contemplation by Martin Laird. The book is available on Amazon, both new and used, and as a Kindle download. Steven Lee is a new member of the Cathedral staff, assisting the Reverend Mary Julia Jett during this time of transition, as the Special Assistant for New Formation and Outreach Programs. Graduate of Yale University, he has a Master of Divinity from General Theological Seminary and is currently Executive Director of New York Justice for our Neighbors, a faith-based program that offers pro bono legal assistance to indigent immigrants. He recently worked as Program Director at Holy Rood Episcopal Church and is a Postulant for Holy Orders in the Diocese of New York. This retreat will be a wonderful opportunity to get away and get our bearings during the busy fall season at the Cathedral and before we plunge into the Advent season. It will also be a great opportunity to get to know one of the newest members of the Cathedral staff!
Holy Cross is a quiet and beautiful monastery on the banks of the Hudson easily reached by Metro North. Their website, www.holycrossmonastery.com, provides information on the monastery as well as driving directions. Holy Cross is a place where you will learn the true meaning of Christian hospitality. It has recently undergone extensive renovation to make it more accommodating to the disabled. The meals are healthy and tasty. Those attending the retreat are free to participate in any or all meditations, attend the monastery’s five daily offices, take walks, or just sleep!
We have just 15 spaces this year. Reservations are due October 2, including payment in full. A few scholarships are available. (For scholarships, speak to Mother Mary Julia.) For any other information, please contact Marsha Ra.
