From the Wardens - CCC, New Vicar Search, Stewardship, and More

December 18, 2017

“Stir up your power, O Lord, and with great might come among us; and, because we are sorely hindered by our sins, let your bountiful grace and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.”  (Collect for the Third Sunday in Advent)

Dear Members and Friends of the Congregation of St. Saviour,

Help CCC provide a festive Christmas meal in the Soup Kitchen

In this time of preparation for the Feast of the Incarnation we are all busier than ever. This is also a time of sharing. On Sunday, December 24, Cathedral Community Cares will be serving a Christmas dinner at noon in the Undercroft. They are asking the Congregation to donate fully cooked chickens, hams, turkeys or desserts. The food should be dropped off in the morning, between 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM. We hope you can help make the meal especially festive for the soup kitchen guests.

News on the Search for a New Vicar

On Monday evening, December 11, Dean Daniel and Canon Malloy met with the Vestry to discuss the transition. Until a new Vicar is called, Canon Malloy has assumed responsibility for pastoral care. He will be supported by Chanmi Byun and Steven Lee in the Office of Pastoral Care, both of whom are also wonderful supports to the Congregation. The Dean intends to call a new Vicar, not an interim Vicar. Although it is not the legal responsibility of this Vestry to search or call clergy, in this case the Vestry will be consulted throughout the process. We will be reviewing the self-study that was undertaken with you just a year ago and we will be praying for discernment. We ask you to join us in prayer, that we find a priest who can work with us, encourage us and pastor us.

USHERS AND ACOLYTES NEEDED FOR CHRISTMAS EVE

On Christmas Eve the world descends upon the Cathedral while a good number of congregation members and volunteers leave New York to be with their families. This creates a big hole in the usher and acolyte volunteer corps. And as Christmas Eve is a Sunday this year, we will have an Advent service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday plus Lessons & Carols and the Evening Eucharist, creating an even bigger challenge. If you can help usher, contact Tim Dwyer, Head Usher, and if you can help acolyte contact Lisa Chin, Head Acolyte, or Harry Johnson.

CHRISTMAS AT THE CATHEDRAL

Please note that on Sunday morning, December 24, there will be one morning service at 10:30 AM. There will be no 8:00 AM or 9:00 AM service.  Christmas Eve begins with Lessons and Carols at 4:00 PM (a great service for children), followed by Christmas Eve late service: Prelude at 10:00 PM and Festal Eucharist at 10:30 PM.

PASSES ARE REQUIRED FOR SEATING IN THE CROSSING. YOUR WARDENS STILL HAVE SOME LEFT, SO PLEASE REACH OUT TO US IF YOU ARE IN NEED.

STEWARDSHIP

Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God that He has given you. -- Deuteronomy 16:17

If you haven’t yet handed in a pledge card for 2018, we urge you to do that now. We rely on your regular, faithful support as we plan our budget for the coming year. In addition to providing regular support to the Cathedral itself, the combined resources of our Congregation have purchased equipment for the soup kitchen, a stair-lift to help the elderly and handicapped access Cathedral House, and helped provide legal support to the poor.

Pledges are a promise to give. If your situation should change after the promise is made, just tell one of the wardens and the amount pledged will be adjusted as you direct us.

ANNUAL MEETING FEBRUARY 4th 12:30 SAVE THE DATE!

This year’s meeting may be one of the most important in the history of our community. Please make every effort to attend and help to shape our future direction.

All Blessings in this season of Expectation!

Your wardens,

Marsha Ra and Tim Dwyer
