Holy Week 2017

Assist us mercifully with your help, O Lord God of our
salvation, that we may enter with joy upon the contemplation
of those mighty acts, whereby you have given us life and
immortality; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

- Collect for Palm Sunday (BCP, 270)

Dear Congregation of Saint Savior and friends of the Cathedral,

Holy Week cometh. In just a few days, we will begin the liturgical and communal journey of the death and resurrection of Christ in a whole host of liturgies. Details on all those can be found listed below, as well as information about today's last meditation on the Station of the Cross, the Palm Sunday procession, the various services, signing up for the Watch of the Blessed Sacrament Thursday night, the upcoming celebration of Baptisms and Confirmations, and of course, encouragement to retrieve your Easter tickets in the usual ways.

In a wide array of ways, Holy Week is overwhelming. Within a span of days we declare the darkest and brightest points of our journey with Christ. In song, word, and Sacrament we lay claim to the ancient promises for the beloved people of God. We also have the chance to go to church an awful lot, and I hope you not only find a way to be present in the liturgies, but also find a way to be present in the fullness of repentance, death, and of course, the triumph of the resurrection that we can be assured has already come and yet we wait to celebrate again, anew.

If you have any questions, seek more information, wish to partake of Confession, or simply wish to talk, please do not hesitate to contact me. I will be around a great deal this week, as will the other clergy and staff of the Cathedral.

In the meanwhile, you of course, have my prayers.
Mary Jett
