The Congregation Mission Statement
We are a family of Christians, drawn together by a common mission: "To build and nurture an active Christian community; to support the mission of the Cathedral; to offer opportunities for exploring and expressing spirituality, affirming the diversities that exist among us; above all, through worship, service, and example, to bear witness to Christ's healing and reconciling love to neighbors, pilgrims, and visitors."

Commitment Sunday- October 21
This year Stewardship Commitment Sunday will take place on October 21 when we focus on the giving of our treasure to support our spiritual home. We ask you to begin thinking now about what kind of commitment you would like to make for 2008. Members of the Vestry and the stewardship committee will be present at all services that day to receive your commitment cards. As has become “tradition” Commitment cards will be brought to the altar and blessed as part of the liturgy.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Grace and peace to you. What joy it is to be your Vicar. Whether you are a new or old member or someone who is beginning to explore whether this may become your spiritual home, I rejoice that you are here and pray that this is a place where you may experience the love of Christ and the prodding of the Holy Spirit.
The Congregation of St. Saviour is a wonder. You are young in years as a parish, and yet you have quickly become the heart and soul of the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine. You support a powerful ministry to visitors, seekers and pilgrims with your generous gifts of time, talent and resources. Your hospitality, leadership, witness, prayers, and comfort change lives. You are the hands and feet of Christ in this city.

On behalf of the Stewardship committee.Welcome back if you are returning from a time away from the Cathedral. Welcome home if you are new. The crisp fall air is invigorating. Our Jewish friends have just celebrated their Rosh Ha Shana, their New Year. It is a new Academic year. And . . . the start of our Stewardship Campaign for 2008.
Stewardship is an act of Christian faith as important as prayer. It is both a personal and a communal experience in which each of us is called to make a contribution of time, talent and treasure out of gratitude to God for His boundless generosity to us. There are so many things for which we can be grateful.

Christian Stewardship
Support the congregation and pledge online.
Almighty God, whose loving hand has given us all that we possess: Grant us grace that we may honor you with our substance, and, remembering the account which we must one day give, may be faithful stewards of your bounty, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen (BCP)
Christian Stewardship
A Christian understands that our lives, talents and our money are given as a trust from God to be used for God's work in the world. Members of the Congregation of St. Saviour understand that they are called to be faithful stewards of their congregation and their church home, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. (About half of all funds contributed to the Congregation go to the Cathedral to help pay the considerable cost of keeping the doors open. The other half is distributed between clergy salary, congregation programs and office expenses.) If you haven't already, please take a moment to make a pledge to the Congregation of St.Saviour, so that it can continue to fulfill its mission.
Now you can Pledge Online. Help support the work of your Congregation.
Frequently Asked Questions About Contributing to the Congregation of St. Saviour
Why are we asked to use contribution envelopes?
The blue envelopes greatly simplify the work of Cathedral staff and ensure that the funds will be handed over to the Congregation Treasurer for recording and depositing. Cash must be in the envelopes if it is intended for the Congregation. Checks should be made out to Congregation of St. Saviour.
Where does my money go?
About half of funds contributed to the Congregation of St. Saviour goes directly to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine to support the considerable cost of keeping the doors open to us and to the people of New York City as well as to the thousands who annually visit our wonderful church home. The remaining funds are divided between clergy salary, congregation programs, Diocesan assessment and office expenses. More information on congregation income and expenses will be included in reports to you later in the year, or you can view our Annual Report.
What does the number on my contribution envelope mean?
The number on your envelope matches a number in a computerized system that keeps track of your gifts.
Why has my number changed?
The numbers for some contributors were changed this year to simplify record keeping for the treasurer and to reduce the cost of envelopes.
Can I make my contribution by electronic transfer?
We now use a program, run by the Diocese, for Electronic Contributions. To learn more or to sign up, Click Here
How you choose to contribute is a personal decision, however it is true for many of us that weekly or monthly giving allows us to give more. For some of us, regular giving throughout the year is a way to offer to God our “first fruits.” However you choose to give, your continued support of your church is greatly appreciated!
If you have other questions, please feel free to call the Chair of Stewardship, Marsha Ra at 212-865-9246 or the treasurer@saintsaviour.org
